1953 Citizens Rapid Transit of Hampton, VA

Our 1953 Mack C49.

Coach 87

Mack, best know for it's excellent trucks, also built buses at its Allentown, PA plant. Our Coach no. 87 was one of 45 Mack C47 and C49 buses delivered to the City of Hampton, VA between 1948 and 1960. We suspect the coach number for this bus was originally 187, as an identical bus, number 187, is featured on the cover of Mack® Buses, 1900-1960, Photo Archive—edited by Harvey Eckart. 7000 C models were manufactured after WWII to meeting a growing demand for public transit.

This diesel powered bus was used for special occasions until 1997. Recently acquired, the bus was delivered to the CC&T by the City of Hampton, VA with the cooperation of The City of Virginia Beach, VA, who supplied the trailer.
