NOVEMBER November 9 Nov 9 Some great folks on board for this week’s efforts. Ben, Bev, Freddy, James, Josh, Joe Thomas, a new visitor who used to drive for NYC Transit, Lewis, Mel and Mike Grega. Freddy and Mel got the Pentran ready for a trip, Mike worked on the Orion but it appears that we need a special tool to get the Alarmistat out and back in. Johnny Thompson or Cummins will need to help us on that one. Ben and others got the donated antifreeze from Radar unloaded and stored. Mel had gone to pick that up for us, Thanks Mel. Lewis and Josh are working on the grant funds and we are expecting something positive there soon. Nov 3 We had an incredible workday this week. Led by Josh Baker, the amazing organizer, we loaded two big ass dumpsters, one with metal and the other trash as we work to clean out the Buseum. The participation was great. Aaron, BT, Ben, Bev, Erik, Freddy, Harry , James, Joe, Jon, Josh, Karen, Kenny, Lewis and Scott. These folks almost finished the wall inside the shed, cleaned up the interior and outside areas and put the stuff in the dumpters, moved parts, cleaned up all over the place and left us in much better shape. We got fuel in the AB&W and the Virginia Transit 66 so they are ready to roll now. We moved parts around, kept some and got rid of others and really accomplished a lot. Josh bought us all lunch at McDonald's and we thank him for that wonderful gesture. Harry bought us two tanks of Propane to run the lift truck and Ben brought the Ideal forklift dump so we could use that to clean up. Thanks to each of them for their time and talent. Notice that Josh is getting some thanks for a change. Not softening up, just trying to be a little nice for a change! Freddy got the Flxible emblem on the 309 and also numbering on the rear. All in all we had a great day and thanks go to all who were able to assist.
OCTOBER October 15 Well, what a day! We had the honor of hosting the Motor Bus Society during their annual Fall Convention in Richmond, October 9th. A beautiful James River coach arrived at the Virginia Museum of Transportation about 3:15 pm. Folks could either go in the Museum to see the Messimer Collection of Trailways and Greyhound displays or spend time at Campbell Court watching a transfer session of Valley Metro. We shuttled them over and back on the Pentran driven by Joe Kennedy and then on to the Buseum for about a 45 minute visit. BT gave them rides on the Pumpkin and started the Mack for them to hear. Mel, Joe, BT and Stephen had set up food and drink (extra thanks to Mel) for them and Freddy did some 10th anniversary buses to sell and raise money for the Buseum. He did four, they all sold, and we thank Freddy for his contribution. Kenny and Karen were also there to meet and greet and it seemed like they really enjoyed the time with us. Folks were there from California, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois and Ohio to name a few states represented. They loved what we were doing and hopefully it will bring the CC&T additional recognition. Thanks so much to Mel for all his legwork, and to all the others for their time hosting and greeting. October 5 Thanks to our wonderful crew of folks who came dedicated to working and getting us looking good for the Motor Bus Society. We had BT, Ben, Bert, Bev, Cedric, Chris Winter from Richmond, Freddy and Beth, Karen, Neil and Stephen. And oh yeah, Josh was there too. And everyone worked hard as we cleaned up the entire building. Ben got the old frig out of the new parts room, we palletized everything we could, started a new trash pile, assembled all the fluids together and got most of the buses running. We ran out of fuel in the AB&W and the 66 Richmond but fortunately they have not lost their prime. Fuel needs to be added on Wednesday night to both buses! The Buseum looks wonderful and thanks so much to Stephen and Josh who on a non-game day came down the mountain to assist. Bert and Karen did a bang up job on cleaning the floor and things are in good shape. Freddy did a great job on mowing and weed eating. The outside looks fantastic. Mel got us the proper fan belt to fix the Pumpkin that was stranded at Conway Freight for 4 days and Ben fixed it with Stephen driving it back down to the barn yesterday so Cedric could take it on a run yesterday. And, Thanks so much to Josh for buying us lunch on Saturday. Capital idea was to bring it in so we got a lot more done. We will do that more often! |
