SEPTEMBER

September 14

Well, after more than a year of planning and negotiations, the CC&T has a new bus–a new old bus that is. A 1953 Mack diesel. One of more than 7000 C series Macks produced after WWII. From the City of Hampton, Va. Delivered by them with assistance from the city of Virginia Beach, VA who provided the trailer. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. This bus last ran in 1997, but looks to be in very good condition.

September 5

Another great week of busuem happenings. More work on the 102 and the mechanical team hard at it on a couple of tricky problems. Ben Shank brought his antique dozer and leveled the uneven area of the buseum lot to ready for paving—that will give us some much needed quality space. He is a master. “Sergeant Major” Ed, continues to work on getting the tool room organized and we are so appreciative for all his work.

NEWSFLASH, We have a Mack from Hampton arriving on the 14th. We also have a donation of an Alexandria ORION in the works. We are also working on efforts to aquire another old Mack and an ACF Brill. It’s getting pretty busy down at the CC&T these days.

AUGUST

August 9

The entire Wednesday night crew went to the Virginia Museum of Transportation last week and looked at the GMC 4104 they are donating to us. It is a fully equipped RV and Lewis has had his eye on it for years. We will attempt to get it running and to the buseum soon.

Mel has been going to Goshen to teach diving to Boy Scouts and checked out an old GM TDH model along the Buckingham Branch Railroad (old CSX). Mel also spent a lot of time on the new batteries for the Charlottesville RTS, cleaning out the compartment and readying it for installation.

We are looking into what it will take to get the AC working on the Grumman and the RTS. Last week we got the 5302 running and await the title so we can get tags. It will be a great bus once it can be made street legal! WE continue to appreciate Laddie’s donation of this wonderful bus to the CC&T. Meanwhile, thanks to Ed for a wonderful industrial strength battery charger we were so desperately in need of. Ed the Toolmeister continues to keep the tool room reorganized and in fighting condition.

JULY

July 6

Lewis and Russ took the starter off the Metro and we are having it checked this week. Thanks to Johnny Thompson, we have the RTS back at the Barn and so far, it does start. Bev drove it to the US220/I-81 interchange in Troutville to get the batteries charged without incident.

The new tires donated for the RTS are here and if it will continue to start, we will get them on as soon as we can. The Gillig has been inspected and is on the road again. We need to get some assistance on the AC for the Grumman and the RTS.

We have received a great donation of airbags and decals for the 1962 5302 from WMATA. Mike Clark there has been  wonderful to work with and we will hopefully have some time to work on that coach soon.

JUNE

June 30:

The CC&T assisted the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitor's Bureau on Saturday for Bike Virginia which was a great success. Our thanks to the Bureau for allowing us to participate in the event. BT ran to the Explore Park and back, then to Bike Central at Fishburn Park School. Bev ran back and forth to Center In The Square, Link Museum, and the Virginia Museum of Transportation.

Lewis, Ed and Freddy worked around the barn, improving things greatly. We need to efforts to fix the Metro so we can get it painted. We now have two brand new windshields for the Maintenance truck. Now we just need to find someone to help us install them.
